Question 1 of 5

A team is +150. What profit does a winning $100 bet make?

Vig
The margin a book builds into its prices: the reason both sides of a coin flip are −110, not +100. Short for vigorish; also called juice.
Hold
The book’s margin on a market: how far its implied probabilities add up above 100%. About 4.8% on −110 both ways.
Push
A tie with the line, such as a 3-point win on −3. The stake comes back.
Steam
A fast, market-wide line move, usually after big bets from respected bettors hit several books at once.
Sharp
A bettor, or a book, whose prices and bets tend to beat the closing line. The opposite of square.
Key number
A margin of victory that comes up unusually often, like 3 and 7 in the NFL. Half a point through a key number is worth much more than elsewhere.
Closing line value (CLV)
How much better the price you took was than the closing price. Beating the close regularly is the best evidence a bettor has of an edge.
Unit
A standard bet size, usually 1% to 2% of a bankroll, so results compare across bettors and bankrolls.

Put it to work

Every board shows the best price and a no-vig price for each side; the edges pages list live +EV bets, arbitrage and middles. The method behind the no-vig price is on how no-vig odds work. Which sportsbooks are legal where you live: sports betting by state. How each book prices, pays and limits: sportsbook reviews.

Frequently asked questions

What is vigged?

vigged is a free odds screen. It shows live prices from US sportsbooks side by side, the no-vig price for every game, and the prices currently beating it (+EV), plus arbitrage and middles. Same bet. Better number.

Where should a beginner start?

Follow the five-step path at the top of this page: how to read American odds, implied probability, what no-vig odds are, line shopping, then how to find +EV bets. Those ideas explain every number on the boards and the edges pages.

Do I need to know any math?

Only division. Every guide works through examples step by step, and the free calculators on the tools page do the arithmetic for you with the same math as the live boards.

How is my progress saved?

In your browser only. Guides you read to the end are ticked on this page; nothing is sent to vigged. Clearing your browser data, or the reset link, starts you over.

Where are the calculators?

On the tools page: an odds converter and no-vig, EV, arbitrage, hedge, parlay and Kelly calculators, plus a worst line vs best line calculator. They are free and run in your browser with the same math as the live boards.
