Futures odds on vigged

Futures are bets on how a season ends: the champion, a conference or division, an award, a team’s win total or a playoff place. Each league’s page compares the books on every market they price, with the no-vig chance beside the best price.

Prices are compared across the sportsbooks vigged follows, and the best one is picked among your books in your state. A price better than the no-vig chance is marked +EV, an estimate of value. Golf outrights have their own pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is a futures bet?

A bet on an outcome settled later in the season, such as a champion, an award or a team’s regular-season wins. The stake is tied up until the market settles, so the price matters more than on a single game.

Why is the vig so large on futures?

A futures market prices a whole field at once, and the book adds its margin to every team or player in it. Add up the chances a book’s prices imply and they come to well over 100%, often far more than on a single game. Most of that margin usually sits on the longshots.

How is the no-vig chance on a futures market worked out?

Each sportsbook’s field is de-vigged on its own, so its chances add up to the number of winners (one champion, four top-four places, the relegated clubs), then the books are combined. Win totals and make-the-playoffs markets are paired instead, over against under and yes against no, on the same line only. The method is the one behind every no-vig price on vigged.

How often do futures odds update?

Futures move in hours, not seconds, and each price shows when it last changed.
